Project Independence Named as Charity Partner for 2025 Canberra Community Chest Race Day

We’re thrilled to announce that Project Independence (PI) has been selected as one of the official charity and community partners for the 2025 Canberra Community Chest Race Day, hosted by the Canberra Racing Club!
This partnership is an exciting opportunity to not only raise vital funds but also amplify awareness of our unique supported homeownership model for people with intellectual disabilities across the Canberra region.
A Day Where Racing Meets Community
🗓 Race Day: Sunday, 23 November 2025 📍 Venue: Thoroughbred Park, Canberra 💰 Charity Prize Pool: $50,000 shared among 12 community organisations
This feel-good race day is more than a day at the track — it’s a celebration of community spirit. With $50,000 in prize money on the line, all 12 participating organisations are guaranteed a share, with the first-placed charity receiving $25,000, and even the last-placed partner receiving $1,000 and a unique community experience.
We’re proud to stand alongside other incredible local organisations delivering meaningful impact across the ACT, including Pegasus Riding for the Disabled, Palliative Care ACT, and Water Wombats Aquatic Disability Services to name a few.
Why This Matters for PI
Being selected as a 2025 partner means more than just funding — it’s about visibility and connection. As a grassroots Canberra charity working to provide long-term housing and financial security for people with intellectual disabilities, this platform helps us reach new supporters and potential partners.
It’s also a moment to celebrate the work we do every day — empowering residents to own their homes, live independently, and thrive in inclusive communities.
