DEVELOPMENTS
Project Independence commenced operation in 2012 in Canberra and is a registered Community Housing Provider. We are ambitious, with plans to expand nationally and continue exploring opportunities to build and develop more properties for people living with disabilities and other disadvantaged groups.
Project Independence Developments
PROJECT INDEPENDENCE LATHAM
Latham was our first property opening in May 2016. Today it is the most mature of our communities with some of our longest lasting residents. Testimony to the success of our model they continue to thrive with the person-centered support of our staff and supporters.
PROJECT INDEPENDENCE HARRISON
Harrison is our second fully functional property also opening in May 2016. The residents here have shown tremendous growth in their journey to independent living in a different urban context and design elements. Its proximity to the light rail and Gungahlin has been a boon for those undertaking paid work.
PROJECT INDEPENDENCE PHILLIP
Phillip is our third property in Canberra, providing another 10 people living with an intellectual disability the chance to live independently. Opening in August 2023 its new residents have fostered an inclusive and supportive community spirit. The property is set into a beautiful position in Swinger Hill/Phillip within walking distance of Woden Town Centre.

PROJECT INDEPENDENCE
GLEN HUNTLY, MELBOURNE
Project Independence Melbourne has acquired a property in Glen Huntly, a vibrant precinct with shops, cafes and excellent transport links to the city. The building currently consists of 13 large one-bedroom apartments. It will be extensively refurbished with accommodation for a live in resident coordinator, communal areas for dining and shared experiences, and external spaces.
PROJECT INDEPENDENCE FRENCHS FOREST, SYDNEY
We are partnering with a developer to secure adjoining apartments in a larger development. Our focus will include new people with an intellectual disability and other disadvantaged groups. Building commenced in 2024 and is estimated to be completed in 2026. The approval includes seniors housing, disability housing, and affordable housing. PI’s property would compromise 10 rooms and ancillary facilities on the Ground Floor and 4 affordable housing units.
PROJECT INDEPENDENCE KINGSTON, DEAKIN AND NORTHBOURNE AVENUE, CANBERRA
We have a further three opportunities under consideration in the ACT. These are in Northbourne Avenue, in Deakin (adjoining the PI Offices) and on the foreshore at Kingston. These are all areas with terrific amenity and involve new builds, allowing for the maximum flexibility in design which suits the needs of residents best.
